Daily Devotion - Romans 5: 6-8 "God's Love is Amazing"

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. -Romans 5:6-8

Just recently, my son had his tonsils out.  Back in December, he started having sore throats, really sore throats.  His  tonsils would swell up to the point that there was almost no room between them.  That would happen every few weeks.  At first, I was scared that he'd stop breathing.  Then, after a few times of them swelling up, I started to pray, "Lord, take this from him and give it to me."  He was in such pain all the time, that I couldn't bear to watch him go through it.  I knew I was tough enough to take it and I just wanted him to be healed, at any cost.

Today, as I was thinking back on what Luke's been through in the last six months, I started to think about Christ's love for us.  I started to picture Christ in heaven, looking down on us with such pity that He would say to his Father, "Just give their sickness to Me, at any cost."  I can't fathom what it would take to have so much love as to do that.  Sure, I could say that for my own son, but could I say that for a complete stranger?  Could I say that for someone who annoys me?  Probably not.  I can't imagine why Christ would want to die for me - me, who is so unworthy of that love and devotion.  Today I'm just overwhelmed by God's love.  God's love is great.  His mercy is amazing.
