Kathy Smith's Latin Rhythm Workout:
I love this dvd. It's a lot of fun. I generally like Kathy Smith's workouts anyway. She has good rhythm and is a good motivator, generally. This lasts about 50 minutes, including warm up and cool down. It's a mixture of the salsa, samba and merengue. There is the warm up, then (2) 20 minute segments of dancing and then the cool down. I got this from Ocean State Job Lots for $2.
Pros: It's fun, if you have rhythm. It's a good workout to do if you just don't have any energy to do anything else. You can take it down if you want, or you can really put it all out and work up a decent sweat. I will do this one if I'm not feeling well and don't feel like I could be doing any weights. By the end of the workout, I feel energized.
Cons: Not a real, real tough workout. Although you are working your core with all the dancing and twisting and shaking, your not really working your abs specifically, so you would have to supplement with an abs workout. Also, there is not resisance training at all. I don't think that you could get your heartrate up into the 80% range, even if you were working very hard at trying. There's not really any way to step up the dance moves to get your heart rate up that much.
Overall, I would give this one five hearts out of 10. Fun, but not real serious.
