Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. -Psalm 46:10
Truth be told: most of the time, I think everything is all about me. I don't really mean to, but I think it's the human condition to automatically assume everything is about you. Isn't it true that most of the time that you get angry, it's because you feel like you were wronged in some way, or you get that 'oh, no you don't' attitude, with the finger waving in the air? Take a look at Martha again. Remember? She was the one that complained to Jesus that He wasn't making her sister work as hard as she. Well in John 11, her brother Lazarus had just died and she's here again taking Jesus to task: Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. (John 11:21) Earlier in that chapter, Jesus knew that Lazarus was sick unto death and instead of going to save him right away, Jesus stayed where He was. His reason? When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. (John 11:4) Do you really think that Jesus didn't know that Lazarus was going to die? Martha had this plan in her head that she was sure was the answer to the problem. I suppose if Jesus had come back and healed Lazarus before he had died, her plan would have been accomplished. But Jesus waited. Why? It was the same end result - Lazarus lived. But the result that Jesus wanted to accomplish was to show the true glory and power of God. Jesus waited until Lazarus 'stinketh' to bring him back. He made the impossible happen.
Where is your faith? How often do you have a certain plan in your head and you're limiting God's miracles in your life because you want to stick to the plan? Sometimes we just have to trust that God is going to accomplish His glory in your life. Really, it's not all about you, or me, it's about God. So be still, and know that He is God.
