Daily Devotional - Matthew 6:24-33

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?  Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?  Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?  And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?  Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. -Matthew 6:24-33

Wow.  There's a lot of truth going on here.  A lot of times, you hear this preached about in the context of worrying.  I think it goes so much deeper than just worry, though.  Worry is a fruit of unrighteousness (sorry to all of you worriers).  If you're a constant worrier, I would say that there may be a lack of faith in God to handle the big problems.  I'm just sayin', that's all.  I'm not a worrier so I can say things like that. LOL  But really what I want to talk about here is who are you serving in your life?  I'm not eloquent enough to take the sting out of sin, to say these deeply convicting words that convict yet don't offend.  Here's the deal:  there are only two masters in this world:  God or satan, and you're serving either one or the other.  Don't fool yourself by saying that you're your own master, the creator of your own destiny.  That's just a lie that satan puts in your head.  I don't mean to offend.  If you're offended, show me in the Bible where I'm wrong and I'll admit that I'm wrong.  If you're offended and can't show me biblically how I'm wrong, then I would suggest that you check it out in the Bible.  Ask God to search your heart and show you how you can serve Him.  You're either serving your Father, who created you and lovingly watches over you, who holds the world in the palm of His hand or you're serving satan who is the father of lies and deceit and death. So, who's your daddy? Are you serving God?  What does it mean to serve God?  I think it looks different in everyone's life.  There are young mothers who say, 'I'm never out of the house, all I do is take care of babies.'  That's serving the Lord if your focus is on Him and bringing Him glory.  It's all about the motive.  What's your motive for doing what you do?  I know that it takes a lot of constant correction.  There's a lot of times that I set out to do something for the Lord and in the meantime I start to wonder how it makes me look or I start to think that people will think I'm weird, you know, those prideful thoughts creep in.  It's inevitable because we're human and innately sinful.  It takes a constant refocus to set your sites on the Lord.  But, seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.
