Daily Devotion - How to Know You're Going to Heaven

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. -Matthew 22:37-38

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. -John 3:16-17

I've been blogging all this time about being right with God to overcome strongholds, assuming that anyone reading this is already saved.  But I would be remiss in not asking the obvious:  where are you in your walk with God?  Do you know, beyond the shadow of a doubt that when you die, you'll be going to heaven?  I can tell you that the Christian walk isn't always easy.  I have family members who openly criticize me for being a Christian.  I've had people tell me, in very profane terms, what I can do with my Bible.  I have saved family members who think I'm just a 'little too out there with that whole church business.'  It's not easy.  But I can tell you that I stand and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.  What does that mean?  I know for a fact, that as bad as life can seem sometimes, it can't mar the glory of living forever with our Savior.  How can you know where you are going when you die?  First, you have to realize that you are a sinner.  Everyone is, so don't be discouraged.  Romans 3:23 says that For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;  So what?  Well, here's the rub:  the Bible also says in Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. God doesn't let sin into heaven.  If we're sinners, we can't get into heaven on our own merit.  There's nothing we can do that will remove the stain of sin from our lives.  That's where the bad news ends.  The good news is, God gave us an out, a gift of eternal life.  He sacrificed His Son, Jesus Christ for us that even though we are so unworthy, He loved us with a love that can free us from the bondage of sin.  It's easy, really it is.  There's nothing we can do but just say to Jesus, 'I admit I'm a sinner.  Please forgive me.'  It's that simple.
If you are saved, how is your walk with God?  Are you loving God with all you heart, soul and mind?  Do you put God off until Sunday and then spend an hour or so with Him and then get on with life?  There could be so much more for you than that.
If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. -John 15:10-11
