Daily Devotion - II Corinthians 10:3-6

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. -II Corinthians 10:3-6

Weapons for the fight.  We're in a battle.  It's a spiritual battle, waged by evil around us.  Of course we have the tools in Ephesians:  the whole armor of God, loins girt with truth, feet shod in the preparation of righteousness, the helmet of salvation.... (Eph. 6:10-18).  But, sometimes our biggest enemy is ourselves. In my failings of modern rhetoric, I'll quote from Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Bible: "What opposition is made against the gospel by the powers of sin and Satan in the hearts of men. Ignorance, prejudices, beloved lusts, are Satan’s strong-holds in the souls of some; vain imaginations, carnal reasonings, and high thoughts, or proud conceits, in others, exalt themselves against the knowledge of God, that is, by these ways the devil endeavours to keep men from faith and obedience to the gospel, and secures his possession of the hearts of men, as his own house or property. But then observe, the conquest which the word of God gains. These strong-holds are pulled down by the gospel as the means, through the grace and power of God accompanying it as the principal efficient cause. Note, The conversion of the soul is the conquest of Satan in that soul."  I could have used the Ephesians verses as a description of weapons, but I don't think you can pick up your weapons until you have a game plan.  I guess I used this verse as a challenge to have right thinking about strongholds.  From the head to the heart to the hand goes wrong thinking.  Keep your thoughts captive.  I don't know if that is as much a weapon as a challenge.  I suppose the weapon here is keeping your thoughts on God.  Repenting where there needs to be repenting and re-focusing away from your own desires on to God's desires for your life.
